England were trounced by Australia in the first Test match at Edgbaston, losing by 251 runs.

Joe Root has lost key fast bowler James Anderson with Jofra Archer expected to make his debut at Lord’s.

The toss will take place at around 10.15am for the second Ashes Test and team news will follow.

Root is confident Archer can make the right sort of impact for England against their rivals.

“He will bring pace, take the ball both ways and has a great bouncer,” said Root.

“And he also brings a huge amount of confidence in his own ability, which is great for a young guy to have.

“Coming off the back of a very good World Cup, under huge amounts of pressure, the scrutiny of coming into that right at the last minute, he dealt with that brilliantly and I expect him to do that coming into this arena.”

One bad omen for England is Australia’s impressive record at Lord’s.

The visitors have lost only three times at the home of cricket since 1896.

“It’s irrelevant,” Paine insisted.

“We had the flipside of it in the first Test, with England having a fortress at Edgbaston.

“At the end of the day, it’s a cricket ground with a cricket pitch in the middle.

“It doesn’t matter what other teams have done here, because the other teams are not us.”

James Pattinson will be rested by Australia for the match at Lord’s.

That means either Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc will come into their line-up for the contest.
