Liverpool fans will hate Jamie Carragher’s Premier League prediction about Man City | Football | Sport

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Manchester City will be strong enough to retain their Premier League title.

Liverpool top the table after four games of the season having won every one of their matches.

City are second, two points behind, having been held to a draw by Tottenham during the opening month of the campaign.

City edged Liverpool to the crown last season with the Reds having never won the Premier League.

And Carragher thinks it will be another year of hurt for Jurgen Klopp’s side and the faithful Liverpool fans.

“I think it’s a bit early yet,” Carragher said. “I think we’ve got to probably wait until Christmas.

“I do feel around about Christmas time Liverpool and City will have a substantial gap and it looks like there’s a little bit of a gap at this moment.

“But I still think City are favourites and are the best team in the Premier League at this moment because they won the Premier League and they proved that last season.

“So, I think it’s still on Liverpool to overtake City but they’re more than capable.”

Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday as they welcome Newcastle to Anfield.

Though it may irk Liverpool fans to also know that manager Klopp is not motivated by winning titles.

“Titles are and were never my motivation,” Klopp said at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt this week.

“I want to win every game and make my players better day by day. And then we’ll see where that leads.

“We were very close last year. You lose only one game in the whole season, and it’s not enough, in the end, that was very bitter.

“But it is also clear that with my team much is possible. And yes, the title in the Premier League would be a great endorsement for many years of hard work.”
