James Packer reportedly confronted Mariah Carey’s back-up dancer Bryan Tanaka about his fears the pair were romantically involved months before they split up.
TMZ reports that tensions boiled over backstage at a Carey concert in June 2016 after Tanaka, 36, showed up despite being injured.
A month earlier Carey, 49, had given Tanaka a lap dance on stage in South Africa during her tour.
When Tanaka showed up to the June 2016 show, Packer, 51, reportedly pulled him into a room with the pair reportedly yelling at each other. It is unclear if the confrontation got physical.
TMZ reports that Packer used his casino contacts to get Tanaka banned from Caesar’s Palace, where Carey was performing her Las Vegas residency.
Carey sources said she didn’t argue with Packer over the ban because Tanaka’s knee injury meant he wouldn’t be performing in her show anyway. Those sources told TMZ that Carey feared Packer, calling him “mentally unstable”.
The news comes a day after it was reported that Carey sent nude pictures to Tanaka six months before she split from Packer.
A string of text messages from June 28, 2016 show Tanaka discussing an “exit plan” from the singer’s hotel after he allegedly spent the night in her hotel room.
Carey’s reps issued a statement saying the singer “is not polyamorous”.
Packer and Carey split in October 2016, with the billionaire said to have paid the singer a $US50 million “inconvenience fee” and let her keep the $US10 million diamond ring he proposed with.
He said in his biography The Price Of Fortune: The Untold Story Of Being James Packer that the relationship was “toxic”.
